Our Story

The Michael Hawkins Memorial Scholarship Fund, a federally recognized 501(c)3, was established in 2022 to honor the life and memory of Michael Hawkins who was lost to a lengthy battle with Covid-19 on September 26, 2021. Michael was a proud graduate of Lost River Jr/Sr High School in 2001. He joined the Army straight out of high school and served a tour of duty in Iraq. After his meritorious service to our country he attended trade school in Arizona at Universal Technical Institute as a Diesel Mechanics major.

Michael took what he learned in the Army and school to build a very successful and lucrative career. He started as a field mechanic, moved into a service truck, worked into management, and eventually became a real estate agent. He believed in education, hard work, and The American Dream. Michael also believed in helping others achieve their goals. This scholarship is to honor his legacy and commitment to his family, alma mater, community and country.

Our primary means of fundraising for the scholarship is through our annual golf tournament and generous community donors.

Our hope is that this scholarship will help facilitate the successful and lucrative career of deserving students that want to take a less traditional route to their own version of “The American Dream”! We want the Legacy of Michael Jack Hawkins to live on for generations to come, one student at a time.

Fight Song Banners

After our very successful inaugural golf tournament fundraiser, we determined we would be able to increase our scholarship giving from $1,500.00 to $6,000.00 and still have leftover funds!! We voted to donate that extra money to a community project and decided on fight song banners for Lost River Jr/Sr High. We designed two 10ft x 16ft vinyl banners that hang in the gym for all the students and spectators to enjoy for years to come!
